…‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ ~Matthew 25:37-40 NIV
Join with the team as we serve a delicious and free meal on the third Saturday of every month from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Help with shopping, preparations, serving, clean up, publicity or fundraising. Share your gifts as we share food and fellowship with the community. This ministry is a partnership with members of First UMC, Barrington UMC, Communidad Cristiana, and local businesses; we serve from the Trinity Center, 1647 Ravine Lane, Carpentersville which is accessible and has parking.
one child, one hour, one church, one school
A national, non-profit organization which facilitates mentoring relationships with at-risk children, Kids Hope USA has nearly 1,000 church-school partnerships in 34 states across the U.S. Our mentors meet with students at Lakewood Elementary school in Carpentersville. Prayer partners are matched with our mentors and hold the student and mentor in prayer each week. To explore becoming a prayer partner or mentor, contact our KHUSA director.
A Christian faith-based ministry that addresses the spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women, youth, their families and those who work with them, Kairos Prison Ministries help guests find God’s grace and forgiveness in their lives at God’s special time or “Kairos”.
Each April and October, we help bake some of the two thousand dozen cookies that teams bring to Kairos weekend events to demonstrate God’s endless love and grace (please be sure to use only approved recipes found in the Kairos booklet).
Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS) of Elgin, Inc. provides safe shelter, support services and advocacy to homeless individuals in Dundee, Elgin and Hanover Townships. First UMC of West Dundee prepares lunches for the guests after worship on the first Sunday of every month. Sign up on the Missions Board or visit the kitchen after worship.
We partner with Heartland Blood Center several Saturdays each year to serve as a donation center. To give at another time (read Save Lives) you can schedule a donation at one of their centers.
The Yarn Ministry meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 pm in the Library. We make over 150 items a year — prayer shawls, blankets, hats, scarf and mitten sets, baby booties and hats, and more. Contributions of yarn are welcome. Come knit with us!
